Official Forums Adjustments and Specialists

Today at the official Guild Wars 2 forums, two announcements came out. The first is that the various forums and sub-forums are going to be shuffled around a bit – some topics merged and some removed. You can see the list of how the forums will look after the change here. These changes will take place December 9th.

More interestingly, the other announcement is about a new program called Forum Specialists.

The purpose of this program is to invite highly engaged community members to serve as volunteer “Forum Specialists” within their area of expertise. As specialists, these volunteers will answer questions in a player-to-player (unofficial) sense, flag posts in breach of the Forum Code of Conduct, and coalesce and transmit player feedback to the ArenaNet Forum Communications Team.

The post goes on to explain that the Forum Specialists will be required to remain as objective and impartial as possible, keeping in mind the needs and wants of the community as a whole rather than their own individual opinions. Unsurprisingly, there is an NDA involved seeing as these Forum Specialists will have more direct lines of communications with the ArenaNet team than average forum-goers.

There will be 25 Forum Specialists chosen from the applications and each Specialist’s term lasts 6 months, after which another round of applications will be requested.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out and what effect it will have on the community of the official forums.
