WvW Cheater Character Killed, Deleted, and Banned

For awhile now on the World versus World section of the forum, people have been complaining about a particular thief using exploits to cheat and win WvW maps. This can be disheartening and downright frustrating for people trying to play the game as intended. Eventually in the forums, someone posted a video showing how the theif darts in and out of stealth much more frequently than a regular thief would and seems to never die. You can see that video below:

After that video was posted the game’s Security Lead, Chris Cleary, made a post of his own that certainly cheered up the WvW players:

We don’t need to see it in-game, sometimes good video evidence is enough for me to track down who it was. In this case, the video was enough for me to find out who it was and take action. Thanks for the video, and to accompany your video, I give you this video of his account’s last moments.

Oh yah, he’s also banned

And below is the video that Cleary linked to:

If you’re not sure what’s going on here – Cleary identified the cheater’s account and logged into the main offending character. He then took off all of its equipment and threw it off a ledge in Divinity’s Reach. And then he went to the character selection screen and deleted all the characters. And then, of course, he banned the account.

The message, here, is clear.

Cheaters beware.

  1. I see that GW2 administrator social justice can be brutal and shaming. I wonder what sort of exploit the player was using in order to manage those feats of cheating — but, of course, the game is better off without them.
