Heart of Thorns – My experience so far! [Spoiler Free]

Heart of Thorns turned 2 weeks!

Hello everyone!

While a lot of us have been playing the Guild Wars 2 expansion, Heart of Thorns, for the past two weeks, probably just as many people are still waiting for patch notes, reviews and community opinions on what the expansion has to offer and if it is “worth” buying.

To be honest, I was one of those people! I did not get my handy on the expansion until about 3 days after release, since I was not fully convinced by aNet and their previous promises and statements.

Nonetheless, the second Heart of Thorns went live and I started seeing people playing the elite specializations, unlocking their guild halls, gliding around the jungle and being excited and happy with the new story, I knew I had to get my hands on a copy – and guess what? I have not stopped playing, since I got the expansion! Whenever I had a free moment I would open Guild Wars 2 and I still have the feeling that I have not even touched on what the expansion really has to offer!

What I have been enjoying a lot more since the patch is PvE content. I have been playing Guild Wars 2 since release (with several minor breaks) and never really got into PvE. Of course, I did my 100% map completion and farmed dungeons every now and then but 99% of my time, I would be spending in PvP or WvW. Originally, the announcements of the new WvW maps were what got me hyped for the expansion, as well as the new PvP-League system!

However, the second I dived into the Heart of Thorns content, the elite specs, masteries, Verdant Brink (and later the other maps, too), I knew that with the expansion, the missing pieces to a truly exciting and epic MMORPG have been delivered!! I have never been a huge fan of the Guild Wars 2 original personal story but the continuation ever since Living Story and especially now with the expansion has been an amazing experience.
One thing that I feel like has to be addressed – as amazing as Heart of Thorns may be – there has been (and still are) various problems and difficulties which players are experiencing! Besides the known error’s and dc’s, some of the new content is still bugged or has not even been designed properly (such as the new WvW content).

Nevertheless, in my opinion, aNet has done a great job with the release of Heart of Thorns. It is an enrichment to the original game which it was in need of! I have personally not noticed and/or encountered many problems regarding bugs and log-in difficulties, so my experience has been very positive and I do not regret any second invested into it. In my opinion, the expansion was not overpriced. This has been an ongoing discussion for several months now within the Guild Wars 2 community, which I have tried to stay out of. The original game was a one-time purchase, which I have played for over 3 years. I have spent hours and hours on the new content since its’ release and I am still busy exploring the jungle! Several updates such as raids and the PvP-League system have not even been dropped in yet!!

The expansion will therefore keep me busy for a lot longer than I could have hoped for and I hope that aNet keep up the good work! 🙂
